I know you all are looking at way to continue the forum. In March 2010 after the pending closure of Atlamontpress.com was announced, a group of us started up the AltamontPass.org and Trainnews.org website (Yes both addresses work to reach trainnews.org).

The website was intended to carry on the Altamont Press forum, for all to use (hence the initial Atlamontpass.org address). Since the initial testing went well and use at the board rose, we became concerned that we may be untentionally competing with Atlamontpress.com so we obtained the Trainnews.org address which we use today.

Over the past few months many folks have visited the site, offering suggestions and constructive criticism. Our group has taken the feedback to heart and we think are providing an enhanced version of this forum.

Yes, it operates a bit differently and requires a login to post new topics. However, it is running the newest version of the forum software, and some enhanced security protections. Therefore it looks a bit different, but it contains the same general operation and format.

For those who are worried about editorial control, we do not block registered users or delete posts unless they are an attack on another member, or spam. I think I have deleted 2 messages since March, and blocked 3 or 5 IP addresses. None from regular users for either board.

So if you are looking as to which switch to take once the forum closes, keep in mind, that a group of users on this forum has already made the effort to continue the forum for years to come, with out cost or concern as to who visits and enjoys the discussion.
