There are probably as many electrical variations as there are locomotive types. For instance, our SW-1 which is a very late version uses the D15C main generator as do the SW-8's and some SW-1200's.
Our recently acquired GMD1, although rebuilt in 1988 to SW-1500 standards with a 12-645C engine retains its original D15C main generator and the engine is derated to 1200 hp so as not to overload the generator.
