It appears that the snow levels are dropping a bit to about 6000' based on the chain requirments. The levels are expected to fluctuate but continue to drop to about 4000' as the low approachs. BTW 7000' is often used as a "benchmark" of sorts to describe the storm potential not necessarily the snow level. A good indicator of the actual snow level at any given time on the highways is the CalTrans road conditions and chain requirements.
