Good point. CalTrans has predesignated chain installation areas to give motorists as safer area to install chains. However, in changing conditions it is an indication what's going on. At least it has worked for me for many years for my work commute. It's just a tool in the guessing game.

No snow at my house today but it's working its way down the mountain. (Based on chain requirments :).

Time to head for the Needles sub. You don't have to shovel the wind.
