He (James O'Brien, the project's manage) said current estimates have the (12 mile trail) project costing $30 million to $35 million. Despite the price tag, he said the trail could be built if the right state and federal money comes through.

Considering they would build this trail under the elevated BART tracks, and that corridor is already publicly owned, this makes the $14 million Santa Cruz County paid for the former UP line, including the underlying land, look like a real bargain.
