The SP water column at Mt. Shasta was still standing at the time of Amtrak's Transcontinental Steam Excursion behind No. 4449 in April 1977. Next year, though, it was gone when I drove through the town. Sometime later, I was told by an employee of the California State Railroad Museum that the water column was obtained by the museum. Does anyone know if this is true? (if it is in the museum's collection, it's probably in a warehouse somewhere).
