Even through TRAC seems like a group of people who know little about railroading, the idea to build a direct LaLa-Bakersfield route makes sense. (Certainly, TRAC didn't think of it by themselves.) If there is to be a high-speed choo-choo between The City and Los Angeles, it ought to go over or through Tejon Pass and not a lengthy detour via Palmdale or some other desert town.

BTW, they claim the new line would be a cash cow. Make money fast. Yep, that is why we have government subsidies, folks. Maybe TRAC doesn't understand that part.
