Regarding environmental impacts, the sagebrush huggers shut down a new proposed private road race track in the Antelope Valley ( Not Willow Springs ), due to POSSIBLE impacts on the California Golden Poppy. This same flower grows in the Gorman area, probably quite a bit this year due to winter rain & snow in the area. Who knows what other rare & precious species of plant &/or animal they will find on the Tejon route.
Regarding the surveyed Santa Fe line over the Ridge Route, this was in response to the huge amount of traffic from the Kern Oil Fields 100 years ago. Building a pipeline over the route mostly solved this problem. The Santa Fe line would have cost a fortune to build, due to the viaducts in the Grapevine Canyon area and tunnels to access the Piru Gorge; all requirements to keep the grade to ONLY 3% or so.
Regarding population growth in the Antelope Valley, does the information include how many houses sit vacant & in foreclosure due to the real estate market taking a dump ???
Regarding the possible impact to local parks & recreation sites, I thought the state was closing all the parks anyways due to lack of funds ???
I say: Build the HSR line alongside Interstate 5 over the Tejon route, that way the next big Earthquake will eat it, as well as I - 5, the oil & gas pipelines, BOTH the LA & CA State aqueducts, and the dam @ Pyramid Lake !!! Whoo - eee what a time LA will have then !!!
