Considering newer freight GE's are catching fire, I'm not surprised 10 year old units are, too. I was surprised to read in the EwePee Hysterical magazine, that their GE U - 50 - C's were built with aluminum wiring. I know they were built during a perceived copper shortage, but these were HIGH voltage deals, not like running 110 / 220 volts through aluminum wiring in my folks' house. Not a smart idea on GE's part.
