F.Krock will probably chime in here at some time. The resilient wheel is a remarkable step forward for rail transit. The wheel is a steel hub attached to a laminated rubber disc that is attached to a steel tire. The electrical current is passed to the axle via several braided copper straps bonded to the hub and tire on the flange side of the wheel. A very good depiction of this is shown on page 115 in the book "PCC the car that fought back" (Interurban Press, Special #64. ISBN 0-916374-41-6 )
Patent royalties are still paid to the Presidents Conference Committee if my info is correct.
