Bill .. your photo and comments very pleasing.. Reminds some perhaps of using one of the 2 Budd cars on an excursion Oakland to Turlock... Not expecting a train on the TS.. a speeding bread truck on a back road..skidded to a stop in a ditch after swerving in a U turn.. ticking the center number plate..Thereafer the driver starting selling passengers.. product from his truck as fans took pix.... perhaps someone out there has a pix of the event..my neg is in a box in a basement in Rhode Island...
Some others may recall when on an bitter icy "Presidents Day" about 1955 ..Art Lloyd helped a few fans in Salt Lake City use the car to Tooele on its "rest day" It was pulled into town by a Tooele Valley steamer... later 2 small branches west of there were covered. believe they were called Flux and Ellerbeck. On arriving at the very dead end of the spur... within view of the WP mainline..but separated by circuitous miles of snowy sagebrush..the Supt opened the baggage door and called out to a startled workman working on the dock of a minerals plant.. "Is this the way to San Francisco" as if we were lost.. Of oourse this brot on riotous laughter... The WP and TV bill for the use of the car that day with maybe 25 passengers was around $70. I forgot exactly but paid the bill to the WP.
Have things changed... indeed..
