I too like Shay 12, but while she was a good fit for Castro Point, she would be somewhat
out of place for regular service at Niles Canyon. Not trying to start an uprising here, but
all of the other small power there are too short legged for the amount of miles that they
see in an operating day...driver sizes between 42 and 45 inches. That amounts to more
wear on drivers, crossheads, guides, brasses, etc. Just jumpiong up to something with
50" diameter drivers would decrease wear by about 15-16%.
Anyway, yes caboose 04 would be a great fit behind the Shay, you are right on that.
