I forgot to add this in my previous post. After leaving Camp 13 with the days loads, mallet 4 would encounter a steep pull up to Summit Switch. Because of this, it was often necessary to
"double" the hill. This extra move added to mileage and increased oil consumption.
While Clover Valley had 9 water tanks, I believe that oil facilities existed only in Loyalton and Camp 14 where 2-6-2 8 normally tied up. Mallet 4 did not usually operate this far North.
