With the absence of TSA-style security, I figure it's just a matter of time before an Amtrak conductor or on board service employee gets killed in the line of duty. There are two realities regarding Amtrak and firearms. You can declare them and check them as baggage in the baggage car, or you can just go "under the radar" and pack them in your carry-on luggage. The chances of your carry-on luggage being inspected are almost non-existent.

CONNELLSVILLE, Pa. -- Two out-of-state men have been charged after one of them allegedly punched an Amtrak conductor during a stop in Western Pennsylvania.
Connellsville police say 22-year-old Chadd Mason, of White Plains, Md., and. 27-year-old Valentino Richardson, of Washington, D.C., were arrested when the train stopped Monday night about 35 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.
The conductor told police that both men were drinking on the train and became unruly. The conductor says Mr. Mason punched him when he tried to subdue the passenger.
Mr. Mason is charged with simple assault, delaying the train and public drunkenness, among other crimes. Richardson faces similar charges, except for assault.
