That's disappointing. How long is "too long" a day?
In 2001, I rode a 400-mile excursion behind 261 which was run jointly for the Great Northern Railway and Northern Pacific Railway historical societies in Minnesota. We departed Minneapolis around 7:00 in the morning and didn't return until 10:00 at night. I don't remember anyone complaining about the trip length.
More recent was last year's UP 844 excursion from Omaha to North Platte Yard. I think that was a 15-hour trip.
Anyway, I purchased a ticket for the Stampede Pass excursion (the only convention excursion for which I signed) and am looking forward to a pleasant ride on new trackage.
