I, too, grew up around SP -- and after Daylight colors were but a (recent) memory. The dark gray of the commutes, the silver-with-red-letterboard "Sunset" color scheme for the Coast Daylight and Del Monte ...
But I absolutely fell in love with the GN "Big Sky Blue" color scheme and "goat" logo, when a classmate, who knew I loved trains, gave me some old timetables and brochures featuring the Empire Builder of the late '60's.
Weren't those wonderful days, when you could tell a passenger train (or it least road) by its colors. Today, people post these fabulous pictures of the Amtrak Empire Builder, or Texas Eagle, or Sunset, or California Zephyr, and they all look exactly the same! I know this is hardly news to anyone, but this thread seemed a perfect opportunity to bemoan the loss of the time when a train's identity included its design and color scheme.
