Not a bad point Bruce about trains still running when the computers are down. I would point out that when the airline computers crash it is unplanned and they get it back up as soon as possible because a business must guard the revenue stream no matter what because no revenue means going out of business if it continues. The Amtrak outage was PLANNED, was only suppose to last until early afternoon Sunday, and was still a problem off and on during the day today. I think that highlights the difference I was commenting on.

Also don't be too sure about trains always running when the computers go down. Once we have PTC in place any computer outage will result in the trains stopping in their tracks. Does anyone out there remember the first few years of BART's computer controlled operations when getting stopped for a half hour or more was a fairly common occurance?
