I too caught that film and it captured my attention because of the Monterey Peninsula footage, but that was none other than 5623 on the point at the Monterey Depot. I suspect they filmed that shot in the layover time mid-day, hence the train coming from Pacific Grove. How things have changed. I remember playing on the beach nearby and walking over to look at the Del Monte sitting in front of the depot with a 4-6-0 2300 on the point sometime in the early 1950's. Seem to recall freight locals were handled by 1700 2-6-0's. I recall diesels on the Del Monte used to pull all the way to Pacific Grove and turn on the table there near a tennis court. Eye candy is right.....I highly recommend geographers and rail buffs alike catch this film next time around.
