No. They were MU'd and the control stand of the electric locomotives featured a homemade throttle design that allowed the MU capability and created by Mr. Laurence Wylie two years after his retirement. An amazing contribution...today's railroader couldn't give two @#$%& about corporate railroading in his retirement.

Diesel power came as boosting the power roster. MILW needed new power, but no one could make an electric locomotive as cheap as a diesel-electric. Diesels were therefore added to the roster. This comment in no way could be considered the last word of that idea!

That question can be answered by checking out Electric Way Across the Mountains by Richard Steinheimer, (where my comments came from in this posting!) perhaps available through your local library. Most public libraries now have inter-library computerized catalogs, which result in a much greater chance of checking out that occasionally obscure book.
