Did you happen to see a number on the carbody side? I think that the A&C, like its sister shortlines California Northern and Puget Sound & Pacific, are all in the RailAmerica fold now, and that company likes to transfer its motive power around. Could it have been a RailAmerica-owned line?

I was driving up to Tacoma, Wash. just last Sunday and spotted two RailAmerica units on the PS&P, neither of them marked for that road. One was an ex-NS GP40, still in black, with reporting marks for the Dallas, Garland & Northern (DGNO) in Texas; the other was an ex-C&NW GP15-1 in California Northern colors.
