Regarding the dirt area between the highway & RR bridges at Toutle River, the RR and/or hwy dept fenced & blocked off this access area to the tracks & river many years ago, ruining a prime fishing & photo spot & forcing the longer trek mentioned by PNWRailfan. While the walk in from the old stub of Hwy. 99 isn't all that bad, the back - tracking to Toutle Park interchange w/ I - 5 makes it harder to get back ahead of the train before Ostrander or Kelso. Don't know why the old parking area was blocked off; maybe too many accidents from people pulling back out onto a 70 MPH+ highway.
