boilerfoam, I'll second your choice of the GN "Mountain" 1290-series round ends. I enjoyed riding one once on train 27 (as a young teenager pass-rider in coach I talked my way back there thanks to a soft-hearted conductor) and years later ordered various Mountain cars to carry the markers on mainline charter trains operated by the Vernonia, South Park & Sunset Steam Railroad. For the charter trips we replaced the rear-facing sofa at the rear of the car with an organ which was played by Portland professional organists such as Leon Drews and Harold Horwath.
