Selleck, Washington

The Tuesday morning issue of The Seattle Times carries an article about the present-day village of Selleck, a former mill town, well East of Auburn. Mill towns had to have rail or ship service for the products. The Selleck mill had two Class 1 railroads, admittedly branch lines. NP branch North from Kanasket, thru Kangley and Selleck to Bagley Jct. on the Milwaukee. The Milwaukee had a parallel line in reverse. The NP also had a line heading South from Kanasket thru Enumclaw, on to Wilkeson and Carbondale (remember NP was the only Class One coal burner in these parts)then to Meeker, Puyallup and Tacoma. The White River Lumber Company met this line at Enumclaw. The line East of Meeker is or was a shortline related to Ballard Terminal.

I believe that Milwaukee also served White River at Enumclaw, either by trackage rights on NP or a parallel line.
