Regarding trucks and drivers..
The trucking industry is driven to the lowest denominator..financial...through competition.the Fed regulators..or er..congressmen..who oversee DOT ..are pressed to lower...standards..import drivers from foreign lands , {due the shortage of drivers } NOT ......It is a shortage of people who will work for the wages offered ....
Even American drivers...are pressed for more loads...more faster ...all the time..the guy probably had been working 18 hour days for as long as the season lasts...just to make a bare living.
The real deal is the mighty dollar...how about real hourly pay..overtime..and some actual enforcement of the companies who drive regular folk to drive till they crash into a train..how hard is that to do...?.
And ..companies just get a new DOT number ..paint ..or not..their trucks and start fresh..there is some move to investigate and do away with this practice..in force in busses right now..trucking companies next..
As far as big companies being a better deal..I differ..SWIFT..."sure wish I finished training..." is / was involved in a fatal accident every eleven days...they roll a truck over every day of the year...they were being shut down..until a re ..ah...Uuuum organization..do you imagine the COE../ president of Swift does not have the ear of his local congress,,,...peoples...
The whole deal is corrupt...this carnage is the result..the thing will be hemmed and hawed about till the media and the safety group formed to stop tired truckers or whatever runs out of steam and it will be biz as usual...
I am for on board electronic recorders...it will cost more to haul freight..my estimate is it will slow the movement of goods by about 40 %, I am for it because it will level the playing field..drivers will make a living or they will not drive...slower movement..same pay...
