Genset units

In an earlier thread someone posted that the NWPY had leased a genset loco and (I believe) posted a pic of it at Schelville behind a fence. This brought out a couple of replies to the effect that the genset units are pieces of c**p. I would like to know what the problem is with these units. Does this negative reaction come from operating employees? Maintance departments? Both UP and BNSF are running some around the LA basin and up around Seattle. Are they prone to breakdowns? I have no opinion one way or the other I just want to know what the fuss is about.
