I've followed closely both the CHSRA mess and the DX project. The DX is not the CHSRA.
Despite what the political Thomas Haters like to rant about evil HSR, even when they clearly know nothing, this project has much sounder long term patronage and financial numbers. Even the projections on the "high end" (noted earlier) are within the range of real passenger demand. The quality of the financial and patronage work on DX makes the incredibly incompetent CHSRA patronage and business plan work look even more troubling.....
This project is far better managed and has a far better plan, than anything CHSRA has put on the table.
This project still has some difficult hurdles, but instead of creating costly, stupid, and unrealistic operational goals, like the CHSRA, the DX has set reasonable goals both in terms of costs and technology. It is a model that relies on a more sustainable and affordable fares at a slightly lower more reasonable design speed, and depends on plenty of congestion on I-15 to fill its trains.
