In some respect this canard is true. However, UP's "payback" should be considered in light of all the benefits the UPRR and etc. brought to society. Not the least of which are: Nebraska, Wyoming, Utah and a good portion of California. Where would these places be without the land grant railroads (or for that matter, without the socialist inspired Interstate highway system)?
