Here's the set-up.

For better or worse, I have a cheap Radio Shack scanner attached to a Radio Shack magnetic mount radio antenna base which sports a "rubber ducky"? antenna. The magnetic mount has a rubber cup which, I guess, is intended to prevent scratches to the car's roof top.

I guess the question would be...

given the equipment, am I better off removing the rubber cup and risking scratches? Or does the rubber protection have no impact on reception?
