A rubber duck antenna has only one advantage. It is flexible so that it will not break or become a hazard when the radio is on your belt. Go buy a 5/8 wave antenna cut to the RR band of frequencies and you will notice a demonstrable difference from the "duck". Trust me. A collinear antenna (5/8 over 5/8 ) will double your reception range. The disadvantage to this is shear size as this is double the size. Ask any ham operator.
