One thing to be careful of is damaging the coax where it enters the vehicle if using a magnetic mount antenna. Be sure to leave a service or "drip loop" so that water running down the coax doesn't run into the vehicle and this will also help ensure that there is enough flexibility as not to damage the coax.
Another consideration is not to cut or shorten the coax unless absolutely necessary and if you do, be sure that the new connector is properly installed and grounded to the coax shield. We have had problems with external noise being picked up through the poor grounding. When installing one of the "crimp" type connectors, we always solder the center conductor once it is crimped.
