Yeah, what a disappointment, Drew, at the 6304 being left behind in Mt. Shasta.
I deadheaded from Portland to Oakridge on July 3rd to run the train to Beck on the Oregon Coast and then to Portland on July 4th and was looking forward to running the "SP" F-unit with what I expected to be its 24RL brake valve. When the train arrived at Oakridge, from which we departed at 1840, it was a surprise to not see the 6304. However, the disappointment subsided considerably when I learned later that the cab had been butchered and reequipped with 26 air.
The two Amtrak units are the 142 and 136. From Beck to Eugene on July 4th we were on the trailing end on the train with the CORP 3819 – 4166 – 4000 leading the way. We arrived in Portland at 2358 with two minutes to spare on the HOS.
