" I would like to see if the CHSRA proposals are at all similar to the railroad studies made in the 1930's. "
Would you be referring to the Santa Fe's proposed line over Tejon Pass ??? This line was in fact surveyed in 1923 at the height of the Kern Co. oil boom, and Santa Fe went so far as to buy several key parcels of land in Gorman & Lebec. While it did indeed include 2 long tunnels to access either end of the Piru Gorge, the line as surveyed also included 14 other tunnels and several tall viaducts in Grapevine Canyon. The high cost was a deal - breaker for Santa Fe, which instead spent a far smaller amount for an oil pipeline over the pass. Note that this proposed line would now be under the waters of Pyramid Lake, a route more suited to high - speed boats than trains.
