YW #19 on the OP&E in Cottage Grove, OR 1971

August 1971, a little over 40 years ago, Yreka Western #19 Is getting its train ready for a trip up the Rowe River Valley. The #19 was on lease to the Oregon Pacific & Eastern which, like the Yreka Western, was owned by the late Willis Kyle. Also seen in the photo is ex-SP RDC #10, only recently displaced off the NWP's Willits to Eureka "Redwood".

Shortly after this photo was taken the news was breaking about the San Quentin escape attempt and shootout in which Black Panther Jonathon Jackson and several others were killed.
