The good Doctor's points on route # vs. train # are well taken. I recall that CZ Detours over Donner Pass often ran as 2nd sections of Espee trains # 27/28 or 101/102. Also, Espee did use Freight train numbers in locomotive indicator boards, although they were 2nd or 3rd class trains,( inferior to passenger trains ) and their freight train schedules were not published for public consumption.
