When it says that the old E.M.D. engines did not meet polllution requirements, is it implying that new E.M.D. engines would also NOT meet pollution requirements?
We know that Detroit Diesel Corp. had to discontinue their entire very extensive line of what were excellent two-stroke diesel engines ("53 series," "71 series," "92 series," and "149 series") because they could not make them meet new pollution requirements.
There would have been extra expense to convert to another engine instead of simply "bolting in" new E.M.D. engines. Inquiring minds want to know if there were un-stated reasons for not wanting new E.M.D. engines for replacements.
