" A simple brake fire... " WHAT ??? Lessee now, the brakes are dragging and catch fire, which leads very shortly after to the rubber air brake lines burning through, which automatically sets the brakes up. Even a burning brake will work somewhat; in fact maybe even better as the thin brake shoe heats up & welds itself to the brake drum. It is quite likely the truck stopped where it did without much input from the driver. Oh yea -- Let's not forget that a brake fire WILL very quickly lead to a tire fire. Ever try to put out a burning tire ??? How about 2 or 4 big truck tires ??? That 15 pound ABC Extinguisher is about as useful as a stream of piss. What a weenie roast that would be !!!
I don't blame the driver one bit for running away like a striped - ass ape; however I do find fault with those who would question his actions having the benefit of hindsight & second - guessing. If any of you know - it - all's think it's so easy, go buy a truck & do it yourself !!!
