Hardly boring and indeed a challenge to a retired railroader (track department).
I assume you have softwood ties, but for that degree of curve, they should do.
A little more info might help; rail size, plate size, spike pattern, tie spacing, etc.
You mentioned a reverse movement, what wheels dropped to the ground? What was the position of the wheels on the ground relative to the rails?
My career started about 8 years after steam left our little Idaho shortline but I saw and worked on probably close to a thousand derailments by the time I retired and might be able to come up with an idea or two......
