They also say they want rail service to San Francisco via a station in town. Does that mean Caltrain or some other entity (akin to Coaster or ACE) will handle said service?
I say hand me your used F40PHs, Metra, your world-weary Bombardiers, Metrolink, and even I could make it happen.
Just add a few passing sidings between Santa Cruz and Watsonville, signal the line, and QZ the areas with many closely-packed grade crossings, though I doubt with the trail it would exactly be safe to NOT sound the horn during daytime hours (This is from a San Clemente regular).
