In a practical sense spending millions in public dollars to protect marginally productive former tide lands from flooding is foolish. Especially when allowed to function as designed by nature they produce far more for the economy as a nursery for ground fish and Dungeness crab. Its not about being eco-groovy it is about good economics. Of course you can still fix the levee for another purpose and restore tidal action at the same time. I know this isn't train specific but since rails are so often on levees that cut off former tide lands it has a little relevance
