And exactly where does Santa Cruz County think the tax revenues Santa Cruz County collects from local residents that have to commute to Silicon Valley in order to have sufficient financial horsepower to live in Santa Cruz comes from? Silicon Valley work=Santa Cruz County revenues. Interesting equation. And it also has transportation dependent variables. Wake up and smell the coffee. The tired old argument about not wanting the rail over the hill to avoid stimulating unwanted growth is dead. It happened anyway. Politicians seem to be content with the status quo, which is increased property tax revenues and no expenditures on transportation infrastructure improvements. And the NIMBYs who contribute well always seem to get disproportionate representation. Now would someone who commutes the hill daily rather use the tired old expensive automtive solution or an expensive--but recoverable-- rail one? Are the arguments really environmental? --or just mental?
