Switch 9 did not exist at the same time as Nyack Lodge.
The lodge was removed to build I-80 and the track was put in an underpass instead of an overpass like it was on H-40.
In the summer of 1966 a no. 14 crossover was installed in this underpass for snow protection as CTC was installed between Norden and Switch 9.
One project I was told about was having the engineering department of the Sacramento Division measure for the trainmasters use the distance a train could be viewed both directions from the lounge when comming into view westbound and disappearing eastbound through Gap at the location of old T-2.
There was almost a mile of distanc4 that a train could be observed from the lounge of Nyack Lodge.
Not all "Weed Weisels" work in the cold and wet.
Yes Carol the view of the RR was unsurpassed and it was a shame to see the lodge go.
