Another legendary SP/Amtrak engineer, RIP Tom Dinger

Retired SP/Amtrak engineer Tom Dinger died yesterday after a battle with cancer. He was legendary in his own right but nothing like Buckethead. Tom was universally liked and admired for his graciousness and skill as an engineer. I'll miss him dearly. Tom worked out of Los Angeles and retired a few years ago. He worked the San Diegans/Surfliners both directions and Sunset Limited out to Maricopa. I last saw him at Winterail a couple years ago and wished we could have talked more.

The LA Times wrote an article about Tom when he retired. From what I understand the last part about graffiti removal was meant as a joke, but the humor sailed over the reporter's head. LOL!
