Peter,

I had you pegged as somebody from a much younger generation. How much younger; the infant in the cab of the 483 in one of my shots in Chama would be near your age now. When I put that show together I expressed concerns to Vic regarding whether the current Winterail audience would really find a Rio Grande show relevant to their interest. It turns out that he is really into the narrow gauge, and it went from there. It does appear that there were enough people there who did love it, but there is no doubt that the majority of today's fans are diesel lovers, with steam a bit of a curiosity. Interesting for me, I reacted to some of the diesel shows the way you did to mine. It's generational I guess.

I regard what I did in the early sixties as transitional from the Kodachrome 10 era where 50mm lenses, fair weather photography, and few if any night shots in color, would have been the norm. After all, prior to that time all the "serious" work was being done in black and white. Kodachrome II, at a blazing ISO 25, changed all that, and I was quick to realize it's potential and capitalize on it. Today it has expanded from there into new styles of photography rarely utilized in the steam age.
