From what I have heard, UP rotarys have only two traction motors to turn the blade, while the SP rotarys have four motors. Back around 1997 or 1998 the UP tried one of "their" rotarys on "the Hill". It did not go far before burning out both motors, and had to be replaced by one of the SP plows. The UP rotarys might be fine for the Wyoming snow, they can't make it with what's on Donner.
