in california recently chp started doing background checks on railroad police officer applicants after the railroad completed their own background check. this has lead to at least one embarassing situation whereas the railroad told the applicant he passed, only to be failed by chp and their standards. may be that, in part, has to do with the fact that statewide law enforcement is down 8500, yes eight thousand five hundred, sworn positions.
