The lucky "PE agreement guys were the engineers. They had the old PE agreement in place for a good 15 to 20 years after the trainmen lost the PE agreemebt in 1969. They had one heck of a general chairman that was able to fight the SP to keep the agreement. On the other hand, the trainmen had voted to keep most if not all of the PE agreement, and on an overwhelming vote to retain what we had, we sent our general chairman to Las Vegas (where the General meetings were taking place) and instructed him to vote in our favor. He went to Las Vegas and decided he knew what was best for us, which was about opposite of the way he had been instructed by his membership. He gave up most of everything we had, except for a one hour cannon ball rate and prior rights on certain jobs. Other than that, we pretty much lost everything.
