This isn't going to help the guy during the day but I hear the engineers blowing the horns for the Blossom Hill ( No crossing anymore but they still blow for it.) and Chynoweth grade crossings in San Jose at about 12.00 and 1:00 or 1:30 in the mornings during some weekdays. It sounds as if the trains move in each direction. It can't be Amtrak as the trains have too many cars. So they have something going on there. Not much but something. Yeah and who is going to get up to go take pictures at that hour? Maybe someone but not me. Well maybe if I was younger.
