I wonder if the empty Eastbound grain & coal trains are being routed over Stevens Pass simply to save on crew costs and deadheading ??? After all,it takes 3 crews to run a train from Seattle or Tacoma to Spokane via Stampede Pass, and only 2 crews via Stevens Pass.
