International Harvester was not an on - line customer of Santa Fe, as their assembly plants were located in Ohio & Indiana. I suppose they did some routing via Santa Fe; however remember that most railroads did not start leasing vehicles until the early 1980's. Perhaps it was a case of I - H schoomzing Santa Fe's purchasing agents, or maybe Santa Fe wanted real trucks, not trucks built by a car company. The " Cornbinder " Truck line was quite popular at the time, and even their pickups featured a front beam axle and leaf springs on all four corners. Not much for ride quality, but rugged enough for M of W duties !!!
