The UP Glendale (to the Glendale and Montrose) originally branched off of the UP at Avenue 28 ( and up Cypress to San Fernando Road to the current site of the High School, then under where the 2 Freeway underpass. There was a depot there, and this is where the "electrifed" segment to Montrose up Glendale Avenue. An electric motor, later used in Washington, now preserved at OERM operated on Glendale Streets, until "clean" diesel power replaced it. Steam was prohibited on Glendale Streets. There is a segment of the very old ROW on SF Road north.

In the 1930's the East Bank projects were completed and the line rerouted on the SP from where the Pasadena Branch (former Altadena-Pasadena,Los Angelese Terminal)which continued to run on Humboldt. This was also when the Pasadena Freeway was completed and the DT bridges the Gold Line now uses where put in at Heritage Square and Fremont in South Pasadena.

UP switched this well into the late 70's including plastic for Capitol Records, where the Beatles records were actually pressed. Lumber yards in downtown Montrose and the parking area behind the buildings in downtown is where the line ended serving packing houses and lumber into the 1930's.

Petty's book has quite a bit on the East Bank projects, designed back in the 30's to "get the trains off the street" meaning Alameda Street, which was an early version of an "Alameda Corridor" complete with replacing Grand Central Station (served by UP from the Southern entrance, and owned and operated by SP which entered a left via North Alameda. Union Station was the final relocation, and moving SPs' coach yards from Alameda/Sixth area to the area east of downtown at the "Shops" complex.
